How to Hide an Instagram Story from Someone

Sometimes you want to share a Story but don't want a particular person to see it. You don't need to block or unfollow them for this. Instagram has a setting that lets you hide your Stories from specific people while keeping everything else the same.

How to Hide Your Instagram Story from Someone

You can change this setting from your Instagram profile in just a few steps:

  1. Open Instagram and go to your profile.
  2. Tap the three-line menu in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Settings and privacy.
  4. Find the Story section under Who can see your content.
  5. Tap Hide story and live or Hide story from, depending on your version of Instagram.
  6. Search for the person you want to hide your Story from.
  7. Select their name and tap Done.

Once you do this, that person won't be able to see your Stories or live videos while they're on your hidden list. Instagram doesn't notify them that you've hidden your Story from them.

Can You Hide a Story After Posting It?

You don't have to change the setting before posting. If you've already shared a Story and then decide that you don't want someone to see it, you can change the setting while the Story is still active.

Open your Story, tap the options menu, and go to the Story settings. Select Hide story from, choose the person, and save the change.
